BetterScanner Privacy Policy.

Better Scanner : Text & Notes ("BetterScanner", "the app") is made by Approud Co., Ltd. ("Approud", "we"). This policy explains what data the app uses and why. BetterScanner has no account or login, and we don't run servers that store your documents.

Your documents stay on your device

Your scans, imported photos and PDFs, recognised text, signatures, ID card and passport scans, and the files you export are stored on your iPhone or iPad only, in BetterScanner's private storage. They are never sent to Approud or to any third party.

The app's smart features run on your device too:

• Text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework.
• Translation uses Apple's Translation framework.
• Document naming suggests a name with Apple's on-device Foundation Models.

Your documents and their text aren't uploaded to do any of this.

iCloud sync (optional)

If you have BetterScanner Pro and turn on iCloud sync (it's off by default), your documents are stored in your own private iCloud account, in Apple's CloudKit private database, so they appear on your other devices. Only you can read that data; Approud can't. Apple's privacy policy applies to iCloud.

Permissions

• Camera, to scan documents.
• Photos, to import images. The app only receives the photos you pick.
• Files, to import and export documents you choose.

You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.

Anonymous install ID

When you first open the app, it creates a random install ID and keeps it in the iOS Keychain. It isn't linked to your name, email or Apple Account, and it stays the same if you delete and reinstall the app on the same device. We give this ID to the services below so they see one anonymous user, instead of a new user each time the app is reinstalled.

Purchases

BetterScanner Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card details.

• RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) manages subscriptions. It receives your purchase history, the anonymous install ID, and device and app information, so the app knows whether you have Pro and we can see how subscriptions perform. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
• Superwall (Superwall Inc.) shows the Pro offer. It receives the anonymous install ID, how the paywall is used (for example, which paywall was shown and whether a purchase started), and device and app information. See Superwall's privacy policy.

Analytics and crash reports

To understand how BetterScanner is used, find problems and decide what to improve, the app uses:

• Mixpanel (Mixpanel, Inc.), for usage events, such as which features are used, with the anonymous install ID. Mixpanel stores this data in the United States and estimates your city and country from your IP address. See Mixpanel's privacy policy.
• Google Analytics for Firebase (Google), for usage statistics. Its advertising features are turned off, and it doesn't use your device's vendor identifier. See how Google uses this data.
• Firebase Crashlytics (Google), for crash reports: what the app was doing when it crashed, plus device and app information.
• Firebase Remote Config (Google), to turn features on or adjust settings without an app update.

These services also record basic device and app information, such as the app version, device model and iOS version. None of it includes your documents or their text.

Session recordings

Outside the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, BetterScanner may record how screens are used (the screens you visit and where you tap) with Mixpanel Session Replay, so we can find confusing screens and fix them. Document images, page thumbnails, recognised text and text fields are masked and never recorded.

Turning it off

Go to Settings › Share anonymous usage in the app to turn off usage analytics and session recordings at any time. Turning it off also deletes your Mixpanel profile.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites. The app doesn't use your device's advertising identifier, and it doesn't collect your name, email address, contacts or location.

Children

BetterScanner is for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your documents stay until you delete them, or until you delete the app. If you use iCloud sync, delete them in the app or manage them in your iCloud settings.

To ask us to delete your analytics data, email [email protected] with the install ID shown in the app's Settings. Because that ID isn't linked to you, we can't look up your data by name or email. You can also turn off Share anonymous usage, which deletes your Mixpanel profile.
